% One percent at a time βœ…

πŸ“ One of the biggest challenges that I find of being a doctor is finding time for other projects outside of work, like working on a Youtube channel or writing these newsletters. ⏰ With doing the ward rounds in the morning and seeing patients all day, I unfortunately rarely have long stretches of time to work on my projects and I’m almost always too tired after work. 😴 However, I've found that doing things "1% at a time" can be the best way to make progress, even if I only have a few minutes here and there throughout the day. πŸ™Œ

For example, I really enjoy writing this newsletter (and I’m really trying to stay consistent with it 😝). Rather than trying to find an hour or two to sit down and write, which I almost always never find, I use the short periods of time spread throughout the day to jot down ideas or write a few paragraphs. These moments might happen while I'm waiting for a patient to arrive or between appointments in the pediatric A&E. To my astonishment, by the end of the day, I can often script an entire YouTube video or draft a full page of my newsletter and that’s really how I’ve still been able to upload Youtube videos and pump out newsletters. πŸ’»πŸ“¨

It can be easy to feel discouraged when you don't have large blocks of time to work on a project, but by breaking it down into small steps, you can make steady progress over time. Even just 10-15 minutes a day can add up to significant progress over weeks and months, and I truly believe that it’s those small increments that lead to great results. πŸ“ˆ

Another mindset change that also helps is seeing work time blocks as 5 minutes rather than only 1 hour. If I often only have less than an hour to do something, my mind never used to resort to thinking about getting work done, unless I had the full hour free. The small mindset shift to seeing work time blocks as 5 minutes or more, also allowed me to fit more into my day. 🧠⏰

So if you lead a busy life and struggle to find time for your projects, remember that small steps can lead to big accomplishments and work can also be done in smaller time blocks. Take advantage of those short moments throughout your day and watch your project move forward, 1% at a time. πŸš€

The Levers That Money Can't Pull - More to That moretothat.com

Freedom is one of those virtues that money actually can buy. In fact, it’s the greatest thing that money can purchase, as the ability to choose what problems to solve (and the manner in which you’ll solve them) is enabled by having control over your attention. Ultimately, money affords you with the ability to close the doors you don’t want opened, and to open the doors that were once closed.

The Seven Secrets to Healthy, Happy Relationships by don Miguel Ruiz and HeatherAsh Amara

Looking with kindness and loving compassion, we may see that the one who hurt us was confused rather than evil, that they were pursuing what they thought they wanted. We may look back at our own past, to the times we are ashamed of, and see ourselves with friendly eyes, as one who was lost rather than guilty, doing the best we could at the time.
