3-2-1: Managing your money, Controlling Desire & Playing Life to Win

Hey guys! ๐Ÿ‘‹ Hope you're all having a fantastic week. For this weekโ€™s newsletter, I wanted to try something new. Here are 3 ideas, 2 quotes, and 1 question to consider this week.

๐Ÿ’ก 3 Ideas From Me

I. Frugality doesnโ€™t mean not spending any money. It means identifying the things that truly bring you value, spending money on those things and refusing to spend money on anything else.

II. If you want to fly in your life, give up everything that weights you down.

III. The best measure of your intelligence is whether or not you live the life that you want.

โโž 2 Quotes From Others

I. The bottom line with money is that your lifestyle as a young person should not reflect how much money you make now. It should reflect your desire to have vast riches later. You can take comfort in knowing that your buddies driving BMWs with $500/month lease notes will be green with envy in a few years when you can buy a car and pay cash for it. Living poor now to get rich before youโ€™re forty is the new cool. Trust me on that.

II. There is more to Epicurusโ€™s advice. He reminds us to desire what we already have, rather than to desire more and more unnecessary things: โ€˜Do not spoil what you have by desiring what you have not; remember that what you now have was once among the things you only hoped for.โ€™

1 Question For You

Do you feel that you are playing life to win or to avoid losing? Are you approaching life with a mindset of playing to win, seek out opportunities, taking risks and setting goals that are challenging and ambitious? Do you view failures and setbacks as learning opportunities and use them to improve yourself and your chances of success in the future? On the other hand, do you approach life with a mindset of playing to avoid losing, where you focus on minimizing risks, maintaining stability, and avoiding failure? Do you prioritise safety and security over taking chances and pursuing big goals? Are you motivated by a fear of failure or disappointment and may not want to take any risks that could jeopardize your sense of security? Which approach to life would you prefer?

๐Ÿช„ Magic Mind - My Nootropic of Choice! ๐Ÿฆ„

As a person who only works with brands that I believe in and use in my everyday life, I'm excited to share my experience with Magic Mind. Throughout medical school, I struggled with studying and would consume two, three and even four cups of coffee to stay awake and focused. However, the more coffee I consumed, the more anxious I felt about my exams. After discovering Magic Mind, I found it to be a great addition to my morning routine, alongside one cup of coffee. I found that the effects of caffeine lasted longer and gave me more energy and focus to get things done. The other nootropics and ingredients in Magic Mind also help with relaxation and stress reduction, such as L-theanine, which paired with caffeine, helps increase focus and attention. Caffeine doesnโ€™t actually give you energy, but blocks the ATP (tiredness) receptors in your brain. When the receptors unblock, 3-4 hours later (if you donโ€™t do another coffee), you experience the coffee crash. L-theanine binds with the caffeine molecules and prevents the full blocking of receptors, thereby reducing or dissolving the caffeine crash and jitters you feel. If you want to increase your focus and attention, I highly recommend Magic Mind, which you can subscribe to at https://www.magicmind.co/doctorkenji or use my code DOCTORKENJI20. You'll also receive a 20% discount! Additionally, there's a money-back guarantee, so if anyone doesn't like it, they can receive a full refund, no questions asked.

๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿพ Things Iโ€™ve enjoyed this week

Lost (series) - I recently rediscovered this series as my girlfriend has never seen it before. It was one of my favourite series of all time and itโ€™s about the survivors of a plane crash on a mysterious island in the South Pacific, where they face dangers both supernatural and personal. The show uses a non-linear narrative to reveal the characters' backstories and the island's secrets, exploring themes of good vs. evil, redemption, and human connection. I love it so much that iโ€™ve watched it about 4 times! You can catch it on Disney Plus.

Search & Rescue (song) - itโ€™s been a while since Drake released a banger like this.

Overcooked 2 (Xbox game) - my girlfriend isnโ€™t too keen on video games but this week I convinced her to try this new game I came across. Itโ€™s a simple game where you work together to make meals in a restaurant and itโ€™s been super addictive. Itโ€™s a cheap and super fun date night suggestion!

๐Ÿ“š Highlight of the week

As your income scales up from here, you can buy bigger houses, nicer cars, fancier meals, and better clothes, but you canโ€™t go anywhere or do anything new. You just spend more money on upgraded experiences. If you can cover your bills, spend money on experiences, and save/invest the rest, you are in a great place. Everything else is extra.

Relationships by The School of Life

The theory insists that we don't fall in love first and foremost with those who care for us in ideal ways, we fall in love with those who care for us in familiar ways. Adult love emerges from a template of how we should be loved that was created in childhood and is likely to be entwined with range of problematic compulsions that militate in key ways against our chances of growth.
